New Chief Executive appointed

January 2006

The Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (RABI) is delighted to announce the appointment of a new Chief Executive.  Paul Burrows, an ex Senior Agricultural Bank Manager, will be taking up his new position on 9th January 2006.

Paul worked for Nat West Bank for 18 years, gaining his first managerial position at their Agricultural Specialist unit in Swindon.  He moved on to become the Regional Agricultural Manager for the South West region, responsible for putting together and implementing a strategy for the region.

For the past three years, he has been the Bursar and Clerk to the Board of Governors at an independent school in Plymouth and was instrumental in guiding and negotiating it through a successful merger.

Paul is no stranger to RABI, as, in 2001/2002, he was the charity’s first Regional Officer in the South West, increasing the awareness of RABI and organising high profile fundraising events.  He lives on the family farm and is very much involved with the day-to-day management.

Commenting on his appointment, Paul said: “I am really pleased to be appointed to the position of Chief Executive, as, living and being involved in the rural community I know from word of mouth how instrumental RABI can be in helping the farming community in a crisis.

“In view of the constant changes to the industry, I believe that the next five years will be a very challenging period for RABI.   I look forward to working with our loyal and committed county committees who, I know from experience, are truly instrumental in their fundraising ability and commitment to the Charity.”

Paul, who is 44, is married, his wife is a Chartered Surveyor for the County Council and they have two girls.  He will be based at RABI’s Head Office in Oxford.
