British London 10K Run

12 July 2009
This years British 10k London Run saw over 27,000 runners from all over the world take to the streets. Around 30 runners joined them to run in support of R.A.B.I. It was nice to see a few new faces, who we hope will run for us again, as well as our loyal group who run for us year in year out. After a wet and windy start to the day the weather improved giving favourable conditions for our intrepid team. Darren Waters from Shropshire finished in an amazing time of 37 mins 53 secs and we certainly think this should put him in the top 100 finishers - well done Darren!
The sun eventually broke through and the mood was definitely positive and upbeat. The team certainly earned the delights that awaited them at the post-race picnic, which once again was a great success. Sally Field's fare certainly went down well, quite literally, and was much welcomed as runners were able to re-fuel and relax in the sunshine before heading off home - thank you Sally.
We would also like to say a big thank you all the runners and supporters who attended the day and of course to Ray Stollery who managed to navigate his way around London, no easy task on race day, to ensure everything was in place by the time the runners returned.
We are now planning for the RABI 150th Anniversary run in 2010 when 150 places will be available. 2010 will also see the 10th anniversary of the ASICS British 10K London Run and organisers are expecting a higher volume of entries than ever. At the moment the date for the race is Sunday 11th July, with the race starting at 9:35am.
Once again a big thank you to you all - and see you next year!
July 2008
High winds and rain did nothing to deter our team of 40 runners. To the strains of Chariots of Fire, they set off around London's famous landmarks in the company of runners from all over the world, including Olympic and world champions. A champion of our own emerged - Darren Waters from Shropshire completed the course in just over 40 minutes, only slightly outside the top 100 best times out of a field of 26,000.
2008 was our seventh year of entering the race and we were delighted to welcome new faces from Norfolk, Suffolk and Shropshire. Special tribute must also be paid to our Berks/Bucks/Oxon team, several of whom have never missed a run and to the team from Bidwells in Cambridgeshire who entered for the third year.
The challenging weather made for an interesting post-race picnic in St James' park but, thanks to Ray Stollery's expert navigation of road closures to transport the refreshments and Sally Field's acclaimed catering, our runners and supporters departed fed and watered, if not also somewhat wet. The team raised over £9,000 - a fantastic achievement.
