NewsGateway Project supported by BarclaysWe are delighted to announce the launch of a new project that aims to help working farming families take control of their financial futures. RABI’s Gateway Project, which is supported by Barclays, is being piloted in the central region before going national next year. What is it? People who work on the land have a vast range of skills that could be the key to improving their financial stability if only they could only use them to generate extra income from outside the farm. But so often it is lack of money that prevents farmers, farm workers or their partners from gaining the formal qualifications needed to take their skills to a wider market. RABI’s Gateway Project will provide funding for qualifying families to secure the necessary skills development and accreditation to help them increase their potential. Case history John’s farm has been in family for generations. His young son wants to take over when he’s older – if it still exists. Low farm-gate prices and increasing costs don’t balance the books and the family is struggling to pay their household bills. The local seed company needs part-time HGV drivers. John can, of course, drive farm vehicles but has no HGV licence and the family’s finances won’t allow the £2,000-plus cost of securing one. A grant from RABI’s Gateway Project will open the way for John to improve his family’s long-term financial prospects. To find out more call 01865 727888.
