Worcestershire Annual Dinner

October 2009

The Worcestershire committee held another successful dinner with guest speaker RABI chairman, Andrew Densham.  The amount raised is not yet know but thank you to the committee and everyone who made it an enjoyable evening.

Worcestershire Quiz Night

April 2009

The Worcestershire chairman, Terry Hill and his wife Helen arranged an exciting quiz night at Droitwich Rugby Club. Helen Hill invented a new type of quiz, which challenged teams of two to guess answers to topics forming some very short and long lists!

The evening included cheese and wine, with a raffle raising several hundred pounds for the county.

Worcestershire Farmers Boost Charity Coffers

January 2009

A farming charity which provides vital funding and support to those in need has received an £8,000 windfall from Worcestershire NFU members.

County farmers and growers raised the cash for the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution, RABI, through a series of events throughout 2008.

At the county NFU branch’s annual general meeting on Thursday night, held at the Pear Tree Inn, Smite, a cheque was handed over to the charity’s regional officer Fay Dewey.

The money will be used by the charity to continue to support people who have worked full time on the land and their dependants.

The cheque was presented by Brownsheath dairy farmer Terry Hill on behalf of the fundraising committee and he said it was a pleasure to be able to offer such a sum to the charity.

Mr Hill, who sits of the NFU’s regional dairy board, said: “RABI put something like £41,000 into the county last year so every penny donated is desperately needed.

“It gives me great pleasure to present the cheques to Fay as the regional charity representative and she is doing a sterling job.”

Events held throughout 2008 included a series of social evening, dinners and other functions and agricultural merchant Steve Morris, who is based near Kidderminster, also raise thousands when he took part in the gruelling Great North Run.

Miss Dewey said: “I would like to thank you for all of your help this year.

“There are 34 long term beneficiaries in Worcestershire and we are helping more and more people who are aged between 54 and 92.

“I would like to thank you for all of the work the committee does with its fundraising and events as it is hard work to keep up the momentum and enthusiasm.

“On the back of that we also have individual donations that go straight to head office and we have had £5,977 from the county a lot of which is down to you as you raise awareness.

“Without your work we would not get these donations and it all makes such a difference Thank you for your support.”
