Tiptree Annual Strawberry Race
June 2010
The annual strawberry race held at Tiptree was this year in aid of RABI as part of the 150th celebrations of the charity and the 125th anniversary of jam making at Tiptree.
A beautiful sunny day saw more pickers than ever enter the race, many in Victorian costume. They were joined by many celebrity names such as Tom Chambers and John Jospeh Mechi himself!

Essex Plough Sunday Service
January 2010
Members of the Brentwood YFC and the Essex RABI committee joined the congregation of St Michael's Church, Galleywood, near Chelmsford to celebrate Plough Sunday. Centred on the work of the agricultural community, the service was an opportunity to give praise and offer prayers at the start of the new farming year.
Unfortunately the weather prevented a planned demonstration of ploughs and equipment, however a ploughshare was offered as a symbolic representation of a plough during prayers. Young farmers read the lessons and YFC member Daniel Thompson took the opportunity to tell the congregation about the work of RABI. It as seen as an excellent start to RABI's 150th anniversary year in Essex.
New Holland Event
August 2009
New Holland invited RABI to hold a welly wanging event at their head office in Basildon on the 27th August. Milly Wastie attended and raised £183 for RABI. It became very competitive with Richard Hillons getting the top score of 27.8 metres.
Many thanks to Dan Halliday for arranging for us to be there.
June 2009
RABI Chairman, Andrew Densham was very pleased to present Barbara Watt with Long Service and Presidents Award at Manson House recently.
Barbara joined the Essex committee in 1989 but had been a keen supporter of RABI with her husband for many years. She became vice chairman in 1991 and then took over as chairman in 1995 until reverting to vice chairman once again in 2000 when Alan Wreathall became chairman.
Over the years Barbara has given unstinting service to RABI and will be greatly missed as a serving member of the committee.
