Chelmsford Cathedral Harvest Festival

The recent harvest festival held at Chelmsford Cathedral by the Essex Agricultural Society was in support of RABI and FCN.

Presentation at Wilkin & Sons

October 2011

Ian Thurgood, managing director of Wilkin & Sons, was unable to attend the RABI AGM in May to collect his Trustee Award so RABI chief executive, Paul Burrows visited the company in Tiptree to make the presentation. Ian received the award for the support he provided in 2010 to ensure the success of the Chelsea Flower Show garden celebrating RABI's 150th and Tiptree's 125th anniversaries. He was also responsible for Tiptree's involvement with the RABI cream tea work, support which they repeated this year, and instrumental in the production of the 'Magician's Box', the play portraying the life of RABI's founder, John Mechi.

In addition to the Trustee Award, Ian was presented with a framed certificate recording the collaboration between Tiptree and RABI in the year of their anniversaries, which can be added to the John Mechi section in the Tiptree museum.

Vine Day Out in Essex

July 2011

Members of the Essex committee and friends were treated to a talk by Alan Jordan when they visited his vineyard the Great Lodge, Great Bardfield. They also enjoyed a ploughman's supper in the 16th century Grade II listed Great Barn, which was built for Anne of Cleves.

 

Chelmsford Agricultural Club

June 2011

Tom Bradshaw of the Colchester and District Agricultural Club presented Bob Archibald with a cheque for £500 at their summer party on Mersea Island. The money was raised from a trip to Mersea Island Vineyard followed by a BBQ, hosted by Mr & Mrs Sunnucks of East Mersea Hall.
