National Chestnut Collection Visit

August 2010

On a very chilly May evening the Suffolk committee were guests of Robert Grimsey who holds the national collection of chestnut trees. It was a wonderful insight into the species. Having something so unique and unknown on our doorstep is a tribute to the dedication of Robert in horticulture.

Although there was not much blossom Robert guided us through receiving a small twig to growing the species which originate from all over the world.

Suffolk Show

June 2010

The Suffolk RABI committee again attended the Suffolk Show this year. We were able again to raffle a Luxury Hamper at the reception held in the NFU marquee on the evening of the first day of the show which brought in valuable funds and helps with awareness in the county, thanks to the committee members who helped man the stand and reported several people interested in the work done by RABI.

Suffok Chairman, Rosie Western being interviewed by Ray Chaplian of Stowmarket News Talk.

Golf Day

April 2010

Alan Faires and Chris Clarke a farmer and a land agent took the club (golf) by the horns when Suffolk county committee chair Rosie Western asked for help in organising a golf day in Suffolk. Yes was the immediate reply 'leave it to us' the result was a glorious days golf at a truly magnificent course atThorpeness Golf Club.

The 15 teams were signed up within days and generous sponsorship was obtained at every possible opportunity and even the weather could not have been better with gorgeous spring sunshine and challenging with a brisk easterly off the sea.

The victors were the 'Tuckies' whose members are Paul Tuckwell, James Tuckwell, Ian Jamie and Ron Rushforth they received their cut glass trophies at the dinner in the evening.

Our thanks once again to Alan, Chris and all of the staff at Thorpeness Golf Club for making the day one to remember.
