Christmas at Burton Agnes Hall

December 2009

The annual Christmas concert in the elegant Burton Agnes Hall was a sell-out. Thanks to the generous hospitality of the Cunliffe-Lister family, 100 guests had the opportunity to visit the beautiful Hall, decorated for Christmas, listen to a seasonal concert given by the Wicston Choir and enjoy supper afterwards. Organised by the East Yorkshire RABI committee, the event raised over £1,000.

Bishop Burton College

October 2009

Learners at Bishop Burton College dug out their finest rubber boots in celebration of the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution’s annual Welly Week.

During the week, which ran from the 10th – 17th October, students held a welly throwing competition and organized a ‘What colour are yours’ welly disco, with a percentage of proceeds on the night going to RABI.

The College managed to raise £175 for the organization - with agriculture student Harry Grant securing the longest throw – a staggering 27.9 metres.

The aim of Welly Week is to raise funds for the Institution and raise awareness of the organization and the work it does with farmers across the UK in offering financial support to retired farmers and those working farmers who are experiencing temporary difficulty such as illness.

Agriculture course manager Helen Martin decided it would be a good idea for the College to get involved in this year’s Welly Week.

“Welly Week provided the students with the perfect opportunity to raise funds for a very worthwhile cause while having great fun,” she said. “Many of the agriculture students have heard of RABI, but perhaps don’t know exactly what the Institution does and how it can help in a crisis.

“It’s important that they know about the good work carried out by RABI and how it could help them should they experience difficulties in the future.”

The students were more than happy to get involved and even had commemorative t-shirts printed to celebrate their involvement.

Sally Conner is RABI’s regional officer for the North East and was delighted that Bishop Burton College decided to raise funds during Welly Week.

She said: “It’s absolutely fantastic that the College decided to help us in this way.

“The students have done a brilliant job, and the t-shirts they wore all week meant that even more people got to know about Welly Week.

“RABI does very important work and it’s absolutely fantastic that these young people have been so generous. We are very grateful.”

Hull Corn & Feed Traders Association

October 2009

A big thank you must go to everyone at Hull Corn & Feed Traders Assocation for the very generous donation of £1,000 towards the work of RABI.  This was presented to Sally Conner at their annual dinner in a golden welly - as part of the Welly Week celebrations.

Ready Steady Cook in Yorkshire

July 2009

A cooking competition, organised by the East Yorkshire RABI committee in association with the Pampered chef group, resulted in the gentlemen beating the ladies! Held in Mr Moo's Ice Cream Parlour, thanks to Mr & Mrs S Foreman who provided a free venue, the evening was enjoyed by 50 people and raised over £350, with Pampered Chef donating £80.

Tractors on the Run

June 2009

The second annual East Riding YFC Charity Tractor Road Run was hailed a huge success by the organisers of the event. Over 70 tractors ranging from a 70 year old machine to an '09 registration, took to the roads around Market Weighton to raise funds for RABI and Yorkshire Air Ambulance. John Sleight led the run, which covered 30 miles, on his Nuffield 10/60. His daugther Jenny, an active member of YFC and very invovled with the organisation of the event, is also a member of the RABI East Yorkshire committee.
