Boat Trip on the River Dee

26 July 2010

Praying for good weather paid off after a day of rain as 80 RABI supporters set sail down the stunning River Dee from Chester on the illustrious “Lady Diana” Showboat. The peace and tranquility of the scenery was beautiful including sights of the Duke of Westminster’s deer herd at Eaton Hall and the splendid iron bridge. Chester boat company kindly donated £150 to RABI and the evening made £550.

Cheshire Show

June 2010

Cheshire show was as ever a pleasurable two day affair with thousands of visitors flocking to the food and farming marquee. The Cheshire Committee hosted a canape reception to celebrate RABI’s 150th anniversay and to thank the counties loyal supporters. Once again, the NFU came up trumps creating a fabulous Union Jack display of British fruit and veg assembled by Andrew Pimbley which was later sold off raising £175 for RABI.

Chester Cathedral Service

9 May 2010

Years of planning finally came together in the stunning surroundings of Chester Cathedral where RABI supporters from Cheshire were joined by committee members from Lancashire, Shropshire, Staffordshire and Clywd at a rogation Sunday celebration.

It was wonderful to see the county joined by others from out of the area which I think should be encouraged throughout the country. The cathedral was filled with beautiful music from the organ and choir, prayers read by members of RABI and associated organisations plus hymns chosen by local societies.

The highlight of the service was a moving testimony read by a local beneficiary who thanked the work of RABI who have been supporting her for thirty years. It really brings the charity to life when we hear what a difference can be made to the lives of others.

Thanks go to Canon Rev Trevor Dennis and Bishop Peter Forster and to everyone who gave up their time for this special occasion.

Car Boot Sale

April 2010

Easter Monday saw a lot of early risers in Cheshire as Sam and Miranda Shufflebotham kindly hosted another popular car boot sale at Cheerbrook Farm, Nantwich.

Bargain hunters from far and wide flocked in their hundreds determined to find valuable items at cut prices which one day might be worth millions!

Thanks go to committee members who sold Cheerbrook’s legendary sausages and bacon sarnies raising over £300 for RABI.

RABI Birthday Party

February 2010

The eagerly awaited R.A.B.I birthday party was a treat indeed for all who attended. 130 party goers packed into Byley Village Hall for an evening of delicious homemade party food, fab entertainment and a game of pass the parcel to boot!

The Cheshire Committee worked tirelessly to create a marvelous evening which they should all be very proud of. I believe one member, who will remain nameless, pealed a carrot for the very first time in 77 years! Well done Albert!

Thirteen pass the parcels circulated the audience as the Handbag of Harmonies started and stopped singing accordingly. Thanks go to my sister Rachel who helped me wrap 64 layers of paper on the parcels! A superb birthday cake made by Dorothy Smallwood topped off the evening as we all sang happy birthday to RABI.

The evening raised £1,200 and was just fantastic!
