Breakfast at Cheerbrook Farm
January 2012
The farmhouse breakfast event at Cheerbrook Farm raised £410 for RABI which was fantastic for our first attempt in the county. 30 guests, ranging from bank managers to shooters and everyone in between sat down to a full English breakfast.
Many thanks to Andrew and Sarah Shufflebotham of Cheerbrook Farmshop and Cafe for very kindly donating all the produce and the staff for the morning. we hope to repeat the event again next year.

The farmhouse breakfast event was also the setting for two presentations; one to Theresa Eveson to thank her for the wonderful sheep photo she allowed RABI to use as its main Christmas card last year. Seen below with Cheshire chairman, Norman Lawson.

and a cheque presented by Farmers Guardian following the hugely successful Gala Evening held last year. Danusia Osiowy with Georgina Lamb pictured below.

Cheshire Ploughing Match
September 2011
The Cheshire Ploughing and Hedgecutting Society would like to thank all the Competitors, Exhibitors, and all who attended the Match to make it the successes it was. This was helped by the unseasonal weather that was more like mid summer than the end of September. A special mention should be made of the Hedgelayers and Horse Ploughmen and Women who had to toil in the midday sun, both jobs were not to be envied in that heat. We would also like to thank the hosts Messrs Lawton and Whittaker and the Duchy of Lancaster for their help in making the Match run smoothly.
The Match was also a financial success and the Society made a number of donations to charities, Barthomley Church Restoration Fund benefiting by £1000. Cancer Research having £1500, other medical charities benefiting were the Air Ambulance £1000 and St Lukes Hospice in Winsford £1000. Sandbach Lions having £500 to go to tree planting round Sandbach, also on the environmental theme we donated £500 to the local schools to be used for their planned garden activities. A bit nearer to home the Society gave £1000 to the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institute and Malpas Vintage Club had £200 to help run their Ploughing Match. The Cheshire Ploughing Society also runs a Match in March to try and encourage young people and beginners which we believe is an investment in the future of match ploughing.
We thank for their co-operation many others, too numerous to mention, involved who give their time freely. Whilst this was an exceptional year we hope in future to be able to continue to support such worthwhile charities in future.
Cheshire Sunday Lunch
4 September 2011
Cheshire were blessed with beautiful weather and equally stunning surroundings by kind permission of Mr and Mrs D Lewis who offered the use of their daughter’s wedding marquee following their wedding. The joint RABI and FCN “lunch with the musical farmer” event was a sell out and diners enjoyed a fabulous lunch of meats and salad from Cheerbrook Farm Shop and equally amazing desserts made by the ladies of the Cheshire RABI and FCN committees stole the show for me.
Guests were then treated to a very entertaining talk by Halifax farmer and musician Frank Chislett who demonstrated the piano accordion and told tales of his career as an entertainer appearing on television shows such as Wheel Tappers and Shunters and New Faces plus life on the road as the leader of the Amazing Bavarian Stompers. The afternoon raised £1390 to split between RABI and FCN.
Cheshire Chairman Hand Over
August 2011
New R.A.B.I Cheshire county chairman Norman Lawson presented outgoing chairman Alan Hewitt with a limited edition Border Fine Arts ornament of terriers chasing a rabbit.
The committee held Alan in such high esteem due to his hard work and commitment for many years as chairman, that they held a collection to show their appreciation.
A big thank you must go to Alan from everyone at RABI for his continued hard work and support.
