Penistone Show

October 2009

The West Riding Committee did a fantastic job at Penistone Show and sold a record number of Christmas cards! Camel racing certainly drew the crowds in, as did the beautiful weather, us Yorkshire folk know how to have fun and camels on the loose is just one way! Thanks to the NFU who provided drinks and cakes and collected donations totalling £234. Congratulations to committee member Heather Whittaker who had a great deal of success with her prize winning Hereford cattle.

     

Shave Off!!

April 2009

West Yorkshire committee member David Hamer who shaved all his hair off on saturday night at Calderdale YFC's annual dinner raising £300 to split between RABI and Cystic Fibrosis.

David is an inspirational member of the West Yorkshire committee and big supporter of RABI, at 28, he is my youngest committee member and probably the youngest ever NFU group Chairman in Halifax. He has been absolutley amazing and is a great example of the next generation of RABI volunteer.

Dixon's Charity Night

April 2009

West Yorkshire was treated by "Dixon's Charity Night" at Hade Edge Brass Band Rooms, Holmfirth. The evening was organised by local auctioneer Paul Dixon who raised money for RABI, the Brass Band and Leukemia. 90 guests enjoyed the dulcet tones of singing farmer Ken Jackson and the Hade Edge Brass Band. I can honestly say that we had the nicest "meat and tatey (potato) pie" I have ever had in my life!

Several fundrasing methods were used throughout the evening, the most novel being rolling a pound coin at a bottle of whisky which raised over £60! The RABI recieved £300 so many thanks go to Paul for organising the event.
