Bucks Farmers Ball

The 87th annual Bucks Farmers Ball was held at Aylesbury Civic Cente on the 22 January.  The event organised by the Bucks Ball committee is always a great success and this year was no different.

With 450 guests in attendance over £10,000 was raised.

Tom Aubrey–Fletcher provided entertainment in the form of his “Elton John” look alike cabaret act which was brilliant. This was followed by “Salside” a band Tesco’s sponsored.

The raffle had some lovely prizes on offer and was followed by an auction of 8 lots including pheasant shooting, passes to Burghley horse trials and New Holland factory tour.

The Bucks County Show was as usual a great success and a big thank you should go to everyone who helped out on the day.

     

John Knight

April 2009

It is with great sadness that we record the death of former trustee and lifelong RABI supporter John Knight on 10th April, following a heart attack.

John, who farmed at Great Missenden, was a member of the RABI council for 16 years, from 1983 until 1999. During this time he was involved with the far-reaching changes in RABI's governance, which included the extension of benevolence to include farm workers.

He stood down when the changes reduced the number of trustees from 21 to 12 but he continued to be actively involved and was a member of the Buckinghamshire county committee until his death and was a staunch supporter of the Bucks Farmers Annual Ball which has raised many thousands of pounds for RABI.

John was always good company, the twinkle in his eye, his sprightliness and his sense of humour belying his age. He once proudly boasted that he had worn the same dinner jacket to the Bucks Ball since he was 21, at that time at least 50 years. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
