NSA South Sheep, Stockbridge

July 2010

The new RABI trailer had another outing recently this time to the NSA South Sheep Show at Stockbridge.  This equipment is proving to be well worth its cost, so thanks must go to the Hampshire committee for sourcing the funding of this.

New Forest Show

June 2010

A big thank you must go to the New Forest & Hampshire County Show committee for giving RABI a free stand at the New Forest Show.

The Hampshire committee were on hand over the three days helping to man the stand. Sally Sylvester made a huge scarecrow and painted boards of fields and we ran a competition to guess where he was.  The winner won a luxury hamper.

Bruce Horn parked his David Brown Cropmaster on the stand which attracted a lot of attention.

Open Day Longstock Park Water Gardens

16 May 2010

The Hampshire committee were offered a charity open day at Longstock Park Water Gardens by the John Lewis Partnership. Nearly 300 people came along on the day raising £1,450 for RABI. It was a lovely day but if the weather had been better it would have been better as the gardens are truly beautiful.

AMC & Lloyds TSB 3 Peaks Challenge

May 2010

We reported back at the start of the year that Lloyds TSB Agriculture and The Agricultural Mortgage Corporation had made RABI its charity of choice for 2010. Since then their teams from Lloyds TSB and AMC across England and Wales have been busy raising money through a number of sponsored and charity events including raffles, sweepstakes, sports matches and collecting donations during cream teas at the Cereals Event.

Perhaps the most challenging event to date has been to walk the Three Peaks of Yorkshire. A team of over 20 staff completed this challenging 25 mile walk on Saturday 22 May and raised almost £7,000 with the funds split 50/50 between RABI and the British Stroke Association.

The walk was made even harder by temperatures soaring to almost 30 degrees at the Peaks. The walk organiser, David Elliot, Lloyds TSB Agricultural Business Manager based in York, estimated that each walker consumed over three litres of water! The walk started in Horton-In-Ribblesdale and took in the summits of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough before descending down to Horton-In-Ribblesdale again.

Gareth Oakley, Agriculture Diredtor, who took part in the walk says, “I was extremely proud of all of those that were involved with the Three Peak challenge. Not only because we raised a significant sum for two worthwhile causes, but also because of the immense determination and effort that was required to complete even just a few miles of the challenging climbs.”

“In temperatures of 30 degrees and terrain that I had personally seriously under-estimated, this was in every sense a challenge. I am also very grateful to those that worked behind the scenes organising the event, keeping us feed, watered and safe.”
