Fun and Frolics Raise Funds for Farming Charities
20 January 2011
A Burns Night organised by Devon farmer Andrew Goodridge and his wife Catherine raised more than £2,000 for the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (RABI) and Farm Crisis Network (FCN).
Held at the Langstone Cliff Hotel in Dawlish Warren, guests enjoyed a dinner including traditional ‘neeps and tatties’, readings from the Scottish bard Robbie Burns, a charity auction, and Scottish dancing.
Mr Goodridge said: “The hotel put on a fantastic event and it was good to have the support of so many people, including numerous local businesses and individuals, as well as those who attended - especially when times are tight.
“I’d like to thank them for their generosity and thank R.A.B.I members and staff who helped to organise the evening, as well as our auctioneer Jimmy Hill.”
R.A.B.I regional officer Philippa Spackman said: “This was the seventh time the Goodridges have arranged what is now a fixed event in Devon’s social calendar! We’re tremendously grateful for all they do and the thousands of pounds they continue to raise.”

R.A.B.I was one of the charities in the Sidmouth store's October campaign with Age UK and the Flamingo Pool which received £530 and £210 respectively.
Regional officer Philippa Spackman collected a cheque from manager Tony Newman.
Philippa said: "It’s a brilliant scheme which raises funds and helps explain our work to the thousands of people who use Waitrose every week. We're extremely grateful to staff and shoppers for their generosity and support."
