John Howell - Carmarthenshire

It was with great sadness that we learnt of the death of John Howell at the age of 73, following a lengthy illness.

I had the privilege and pleasure of knowing John for almost ten years, initially as Vice Chairman of Carmarthenshire RABI committee, then Chairman and latterly President. He was not only a gentleman but also a very kind and gentle man who was much liked and respected by all who knew him.

There were many important factors in John’s life, none more so than his family, of who he was very proud and devoted to. He was also dedicated to his church which also played a very important part in his life. His life had been spent working in and living for the agricultural community, not only in Carmarthenshire also much further afield and that industry had always remained very close to his heart. Finally he was dedicated to RABI, which had also played an important part in his life and for which he had worked unstintingly for numerous years; this service was rewarded two years ago when he received the special Trustee Award.

Our thoughts, naturally, are with Margaret and the rest of his family at this difficult time, and I feel sure that those who knew him would wish to share with me in expressing and sincerest sympathy.

Monmouth Show - Pigs Bring Home the Money!

August 2009

Some of you may remember the Pig Racing at the Monmouthshire Show this year – it was not only great fun and a wonderful crowd pleaser but also brought in some much needed funds for the Monmouthshire Show Charity of the Year the RABI.

The Monmouthshire Show committee were delighted to be able to present a cheque for £325 raised from the proceeds of the betting on the pig racing at the Show last August.

Dinner Date

The Boar's Head Hotel, Lammas Street, Carmarthen will be the location of the annual dinner and meeting of the Carmarthenshire branch of the agricultural charity RABI on Tuesday evening, 20 October at 7.30pm.

Julian Sayers, the charity's Deputy Chairman South will be the guest speaker. Further details can be obtained from the county chairman Elfryn Daniels on (01267) 290323. A warm welcome is extended to all those who are interested in promoting the work of the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution.

Bingo Fundraiser

The Carmarthenshire branch of the agricultural industry charity RABI will hold a cash bingo fundraising evening at Carmarthen Mart Canteen on Wednesday evening, 21 October commencing at 7.30pm. The caller will be Susan and Glyn Rees, St. Clears and all are invited to join in an enjoyable evening.
