Regional Officer, South West England

Nicholas Toms

What a busy summer it has been... and there is plenty more to come here in the South West as we look forward to the approach of Welly Week and even take a glimpse into 2009!

Despite my cheery optimism at the start of the year, wet weather has once again played a big part in the region, not only providing a gloomy backdrop and flash flooding at the Royal Bath and West Show, but sadly also washing out an Its-a-Knockout family fun day organised by the Devon and Somerset Staghounds. My thanks to Francesca Bell for all the hard work she put into the event.

Welly Week is nearly upon us and, after a season of county one-day shows and summer events on July and August, local communities are gathering themselves up to make sure that this new RABI fundraising venture is a success. There is a lot of local interest, including financial backing from Chard chartered accountants Lentells. Please look at the RABI website or contact me for a full itinerary of events in your area, also if you want some ideas or assistance to run your own Welly Week fundraiser.

We will be at the Royal Smithfield Christmas Fair where there will once again be a RABI class in the sheep competition with exhibitors donating the proceeds from the sale of the lambs to RABI.
