Fundraising newsFarmhouse Breakfast WeekJanuary 2008 2008 saw another very successful Farmhouse Breakfast Week across the country. Our thanks must go to everyone who held a breakfast event to fundraise for RABI. A a very big thank you must go to Jane and Francis of Ladies in Pigs who cooked some delicious breakfast baps for the hungry hoards in Botley, Oxford raising over £500. BPEX generously donated the meat and sausages from award winning butcher Boxleys of Wombourne.
China ChallengeMay 2007 Awesome, inspiring, exhausting - just some of the sentiments expressed by our team of 14 supporters on their return from the Great Wall of China trek. The group reaches the top. Their adventure began on Saturday 19 May when they met up with 10 team members from other charities and set off for Bejing. With just a short time to recover from the journey, five demanding days lay ahead, trekking on mainly un-restored parts of the Great Wall far from the normal tourist routes. Said Lynne Powell, RABI's welfare manager and China trek team member, "We trained hard to prepare ourselves, spent months fundraising and many of us met for the very first time at the airport. What we experienced was something that went far beyond our expectations."
This is what they tackled. An unrestored section of the wall The intrepid RABI supporters. It was the vastness of the landscape, the inspiring views, the sense of achievement at conquering challenging parts of the wall (which was, after all, never built to be accommodating) and the team spirit which rapidly developed that were the overriding observations from the group. Rising to the physical demands of the trek was only part of the challenge; each team member pledged to raise at least £2,500. At the time of writing, our RABI supporters have exceeded their target, achieving at least £54,000. Thanks to them, our first overseas fundraising challenge has been an outstanding success.

Young Farmers Tractor Drive
June 2007
To Celebrate 75 Years of NFYFC, Dan Halliday and Bryce Mackellar (NFYFC Vice-Chairmen of Council) travelled around Britain on a New Holland T7040 Tractor - their aim was to up the profile of YFC and promote the organisation to the British public and to raise money for RABI. They travelled to the most Eastern, Northern, Western (Wales) and Southern points of England and Wales, after departing from the New Holland Tractor Plant in Basildon, Essex, before finishing at NAC Royal Showground, Warwickshire in time for the Royal Show on Sunday 1st July.
A cheque for £2000 was presented to RABI Chairman, Rosemary Nash in the presence of HRH The Countess of Wessex at the Royal Show on Monday 2nd July.
Congratulations to Dan and Bryce for an excellent achievement. You can still sponsor them at www.justgiving.com/nfyfctractorchallenge

London 10K Run
1st July 2007
Despite the weather and heightened security state 42 RABI supporters completed the London 10k road run on Sunday 1st July. This was our sixth event and our largest team, boosted by 10 runners from Bidwells' in Cambridge.
For the first time in the event's seven year history, it rained. This made running conditions more comfortable than the sweltering heat of previous years but setting up the picnic in St James's Park for our team and their supporters was something of a challenge.
It is too soon to say how much this year's event has raised but we are grateful to our team members who make the annual pilgrimage and to those who entered for the first time. We are always happy to welcome more.
RABI would be much worse off without the personal challenges undertaken by our supporters. Good luck to our only competitor in the Anglesey Marathon on Sunday 23rd September and our thanks to competitors who have entered independently into other sporting events - the London Marathon, the Leeds and Manchester 10ks and, quite possibly, some that we don't yet know about.
